MOSPA provide training to heritage professionals from the GCC and wider Arab region

ICCROM-ATHAR (Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region) is a regional conservation centre founded by ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property), and the Government of the Emirate of Sharjah.
MOSPA provided a series of lectures and practical training to delegates from the GCC on the integration of documentation in Heritage Management, HER development and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).On the 3rd March 2016 fifteen delegates from Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Palestine, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates attended the Athar centre for a week-long training course examining the integration of documentation in Heritage Management, HER development and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Dr. Cuttler introduced participants to the basic concepts of GIS and how it can be used as a management tool to acquire, analyse and display cultural heritage data. Using data specifically generated for the course, he took the participants through a series of unique practical sessions including field sessions demonstrating how GIS can manage cultural heritage by being used to conduct risk assessment and monitoring, as well as compile inventories.
